Work smart like Bob
There’s a TikTok meme about AI and replacing jobs… but the funny thing is, it happened in 2013.
Its a story about a software developer who was caught outsourcing his work to China while he spent his workdays surfing the web, watching cat videos on YouTube and browsing Reddit and eBay. According to reports, he paid just a fifth of his six-figure salary to a company based in Shenyang to do his job. This came to light after the US firm asked Verizon for an audit, suspecting a security breach. The company had discovered the existence of an open and active VPN connection from Shenyang to the employee’s workstation that went back months. Further investigation of the employee’s computer had revealed hundreds of PDF documents of invoices from the Shenyang contractor.
The horror.
It’s amazing how this talented man versed in several programming languages spent less than one fifth of his six-figure salary for a Chinese firm to do his job for him. And how his bosses were outraged that he would do such a thing. But if you read the comments, 90% of the people, including his co-workers, felt he should have been promoted and given a raise for finding more efficient ways to do work.
Now, replace the word “Chinese” above with “AI”.
How do you feel about that?
