“People think my life has been tough, but I think it’s been a wonderful journey. The older you get, the more you realize it’s not what happened, it’s how you deal with it.” ~ Tina Turner

I never thought of an R&B Singer to be a stoic, but there it is.

Stoicism is a philosophy that has been around for centuries. It is based on the idea that you can only control one thing in life: your own actions. Stoicism has been embraced by many people over the years, including Tina Turner who once shared the quote above, despite having endured the roughest of circumstances.

  • Stoicism teaches us that we should focus on what we can control and let go of what we cannot. This means that we should not worry about things that are outside of our control, such as the weather or other people’s actions. Instead, we should focus on our own actions and how we respond to the world around us.
  • Another key tenets of Stoicism is to  be mindful of our thoughts and emotions. We should strive to be rational and logical in our thinking and avoid being swayed by our emotions. This is because our emotions can cloud our judgment and lead us to make poor decisions.
  • Another important aspect of Stoicism is the idea of living in accordance with nature. This means that we should strive to live in harmony with the world around us and accept things as they are. We should not try to change things that are outside of our control but instead focus on what we can control.
  • Stoicism also teaches us to be virtuous and to live a life of purpose. We should strive to be good people and do what is right, even if it is difficult. This means that we should be honest, fair, and compassionate in our dealings with others.

Stoicism teaches us to focus on what we can control and let go of what we cannot.

Easier said than done.
