A new definition of smart
In the Age of Ai (yes, it’s not coming… it’s here) smart has been redefined.
Being smart is no longer memorization. That’s not worth much when you have an assistant that can get to anything. Meaning… smart is no longer access to information. We all have that now, if we choose.
So what will smart be?
- Clarity of goals; just like a chat gpt query, having hazy goals leads to hazy outcomes. Sharpen.
- Good taste; while hard to define in words, you will sure know it when you see it. Model that.
- Empathy for others; likewise, somewhat hard to describe. Listening is a good place to start. So is, perhaps, having better relationships with less people, rather than 10k on Insta you don’t care about.
- Situational awareness; like Jerrick McKinnon the great KC Chief who kneeled at the one and didn’t score to ice the game. Be like Jerrick.
- The ability to actually make decisions; because access to information can lead us to wait for more information. It is never perfect. Decide.
The good news is that smart is a choice, and smart is a skill. By developing these qualities, you can navigate life with confidence and purpose. Choose to be smart; it’s an investment in yourself that pays dividends daily.
