🎥Reelay Reviews by MilesofMovies – Emilia Pérez – Oscars, Outrage, and Overload 📺

I finally watched Emilia Pérez, the supposed Oscar darling of the year. It felt like this year’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, but with even more chaos. Lawyers breaking into dance numbers. Mobsters played by trans actors. Social media scandals turning X into a battlefield. One moment, Oscar buzz. The next, cancel culture on overdrive.

Karla Sofía Gáscon, the first openly trans performer nominated for Best Actress, seemed poised for history. But then came the old tweets—racist, offensive, indefensible. She claimed they were “diary entries for characters,” but the damage was done. Netflix distanced itself. Critics pulled support. Even co-star Zoe Saldaña, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, quickly pivoted from solidarity to survival mode… like Lioness (much better btw).

The film itself? A sensory assault. Impressive in scale, exhausting in execution. It’s less a movie and more a fever dream of 2025’s cultural anxieties: identity politics, cancel culture, and the fragility of fame.

Will Emilia Pérez win big on Oscar night? Doubtful. The Academy loves a redemption arc, but not one still unfolding in real-time. If anything, it proves that in Hollywood today, the line between triumph and disaster is thinner than ever.
