Quit your belly-aching.

Quit your belly-aching.

That was my mom’s way of saying “get over yourself”… And get out there doing something you love, hopefully with someone you love.

Which, perhaps, is why the Stoics are such the rage these days, processing life and living it in a cooler calmer way… despite most of them being Roman and supposedly “hot blooded”!

It wasn’t until much later in life that I learned George Bernard Shaw may have said it better:”This is the true joy in life: the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clot of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.”

On second thought, Mom probably had it right.
